I've had a great experience with Mounteney Solicitors, Anna Beavers in particular. She was efficient at every step. Always happy to answer my questions and highly empathetic, I felt completely looked after. I would definitely recommend.

Mounteney, and especially Anna Beavers, provided excellent service and were incredibly professional and helpful throughout the process, providing clear guidance/instructions/advice at every juncture. They were wonderfully efficient, kept us updated every step of the way and made the entire experience stress free. I cannot recommend Mounteney (and Anna) highly enough and we will definitely use their services again for any future property transactions.

I used Mounteney in the purchase of my flat recently. Anna was very friendly, helpful and proactive. Whenever I had a query she was contactable and she was clear in her communication. All correspondence from her side was dealt with promptly. An excellent service.
I am nothing but impressed with the service that Mounteney have provided to me. Specifically Ian McKenna at the Heald Green branch. I obtained a simple fixed fee quote (with entirely predictable disbursements) for a conveyancing process. A few niggles cropped up but Ian advised me through these additional pitfalls and engaged in additional correspondence with the other party's solicitor, without any mention of additional costs. So the highly competitive and surprisingly low fixed fee costing was honoured and the process was streamlined and crystal clear throughout. What was most impressive was that while the other party's solicitor found cause to create significant week long delays in taking action, each time that they contacted Mounteney, then I had an email within hours.Once I had signed then the transfer was complete before I had driven home.If you are looking for absolutely clarity and a streamlined process, then if my experience is anything to go on, you will be in safe hands.I am happy to strongly recommend their service. 5 stars from me!!

General Power of Attorney Lawyers

Our Power of Attorney Solicitors in Manchester provide fast, expert legal advice to help you put a Limited Power of Attorney in place with confidence.

A limited Power of Attorney is a legal document that gives someone you trust the authority to act on your behalf for specific tasks or for a set period of time. It is commonly used when you are temporarily unavailable, such as during travel, while recovering from illness, or when a particular financial or legal matter needs to be dealt with. Unlike a Lasting Power of Attorney, it only remains valid while you have mental capacity and is not intended for long-term future planning.

At Mounteney Solicitors, our Power of Attorney Solicitors make the process straightforward and efficient. We take your instructions, prepare the document to reflect your specific requirements, and guide you through signing and completion with clear legal advice at every stage.

We have been advising on Powers of Attorney since 2005, delivering clear, reliable legal support backed by years of hands-on experience. As a firm regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), we are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards. Clients rely on us for sound legal documents, practical advice, and a service built on trust. With a strong reputation across Greater Manchester, we are proud to help individuals and families put the right arrangements in place with confidence.

Speak to our team today to arrange your Power of Attorney with clarity, speed and trusted legal expertise.

What is a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney gives legal authority to another person to act on your behalf. In the context of a limited or general Power of Attorney, this means granting someone the ability to carry out specific tasks or manage certain matters while you remain mentally capable.

It can be tailored to cover one-off transactions or more general responsibilities, depending on your needs. The arrangement is flexible, short-term, and does not require registration with the Office of the Public Guardian.

Because this type of Power of Attorney only applies while you have capacity, it is best suited for practical situations where temporary support or representation is needed — not for future planning or ongoing care decisions.

If you need to give someone legal authority to act on your behalf, our POA Lawyers can help you put a Limited Power of Attorney in place quickly and with complete confidence.

When is a Limited Power of Attorney Most Useful?

A Limited Power of Attorney is designed for situations where you need someone to handle specific matters on your behalf, but only for a short time and while you still have mental capacity. It provides flexibility and peace of mind when life or circumstances make it difficult to act in person. Common examples include:

  • Travelling abroad and needing someone to manage your finances at home
  • Being in hospital and unable to attend to legal or financial matters
  • Buying or selling a property and needing someone to complete the transaction
  • Authorising a trusted individual to sign documents or contracts in your absence
  • Delegating business responsibilities while away or unavailable
  • Appointing someone to deal with banks, utility providers, HMRC, or solicitors on your behalf

This type of Power of Attorney offers a practical solution for temporary situations where convenience, trust and legal authority need to align — without the commitment of a long-term arrangement.

Who Can Be Appointed Under a Limited Power of Attorney?

Choosing the right person to act on your behalf is an important part of putting a Limited Power of Attorney in place. The role carries legal responsibility, so it’s vital to appoint someone you trust and who understands the duties involved.

The person you appoint (your attorney) must:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Be someone you trust to act in your best interests — often a spouse, family member, friend, or professional
  • Understand the specific powers and responsibilities being granted
  • Be willing and able to carry out the tasks set out in the Power of Attorney
  • Be clear on any limits or conditions you have included in the document

You can also appoint more than one attorney if needed, either to act jointly or separately. The arrangement can be tailored to give as much or as little authority as you wish, depending on your circumstances.

It’s also important to know that you can revoke the Power of Attorney at any time, provided you still have mental capacity. This flexibility allows you to stay in control, while ensuring your affairs are handled when you need support most.
